Team_GB_Feb_23_2March 8 - The 2011 BT British Olympic Ball will be held on Friday October 7, exactly 42 weeks before the London 2012 Opening Ceremony, it has been announced.

The BT sponsored event is Team Great Britain's signature fundraising event in support of its athletes, and is particularly crucial to the team's hopes of improving on their superb performance at the 2008 games in Beijing as they rely exclusively upon private funding.

Earlier this month the British Olympic Association revealed that it is facing a shortfall of up to £5 million in preparing the team for London 2012.

Declared "The Ball of the Year" by Hello! in 2010, the event was attended by the likes of Prince Harry, Myleene Klass and Duncan Bannatyne, and will be the last opportunity to get involved with and support Team GB's efforts in the 2012 games.

The BOA has announced that BT will upgrade its support for the event to make it a title partner of the Ball in 2011 and 2012.

The event will take place in Kensington Olympia's Grand Hall, which will enable up to 1,800 guests to attend, including leading British athletes of the past and present - last year Sir Steve Redgrave, Matt Pinsent and Jessica Ennis were present.

The 2010 event ran until 3am, and was hosted by Amanda Holden and Ben Shephard, featuring live performances from Jamie Cullum, Mark Ronson and DJ Lora.

Sir Clive Woodward, BT British Olympic Ball chairman, said: "The 2011 BT British Olympic Ball will take place exactly 42 weeks ahead of the London 2012 Olympic Games when the nation's excitement levels will be reaching fever pitch.

"It will be the ultimate pre-Olympic party and is the last chance to show your support for Our Greatest Team – Team GB in advance of London 2012."

Suzi Williams, Director, BT Group Marketing and Brand, said: "Following the success of last year's British Olympic Ball we are proud to be re-affirming our commitment to the British Olympic Association by becoming the title partner for this year's event.

"With the start of the Olympic Games just over 500 days away, this fundraising event will play an important role in supporting and developing Team GB. We're thrilled to be helping all our athletes be the very best they can be in 2012."

Zara Phillips, who will be the Athlete Co-Chairman alongside Ben Ainslie this year, said: "London hosting the Olympic Games is a once in a lifetime experience for British athletes and supporters and the British Olympic Ball is your opportunity to join the most important pre-Olympic party.

"If last year is anything to go by the Ball will be a brilliant and unforgettable celebration. With your support we will make the nation proud in London 2012."
