Chantal_PetitclercApril 29 - Legendary Canadian wheelchair racer Chantal Petitclerc, one of the most successful Paralympians of all time, has been named as athlete services officer for Team Canada at the London 2012 Paralympics.


The announcement was made by London 2012 Paralympic Chef de Mission for Team Canada Gaétan Tardif and Assistant Chef de Mission Elisabeth Walker-Young, as the pair revealed the Mission Staff for the Games.

Petitclerc, who claimed 14 Paralympic gold medals in an incredible career, takes up the newly created role, which will see her mentor and help the Canadian athletes competing in the English capital.

Dr Richard Goudie, who has worked at the Beijing 2008 and Vancouver 2010 Paralympic Games, will serve as chief medical officer with Nancy Quinn appointed chief therapist and Maggie Kayes assistant chief therapist.

Kelly Dearborn, Lindsay Hugenholtz, Laura Domenicucci will also serve as team services officers while Kirby Côté will work alongside Petitclerc as an athlete services officer.

Highly respected lawyer Jeff Palamar will be the team Ombudsperson while Alison Korn will head up the media team which consists of Judy Joseph-Black, Guy Napert-Frenette, Brigitte Légaré and Marie-Hélène Cayer.

The Canadian Paralympic Committee (CPC) also revealed the Mission Staff for the 2011 Parapan American Games will be held in Guadalajara in Mexico from November 19-27.

Tardif and Elisabeth Walker-Young will serve as Chef de Mission and Assistant Chef de Mission respectively, while Mark Dottori will be the only member of the Guadalajara 2011 staff not serving Team Canada at London 2012 as he takes up the position of media chief at the Parapan American Games.

The rest of the team will all be at the London 2012 Paralympics with Goudie appointed chief medical officer in Mexico, Domenicucci as Team Services Officer, Côté as athlete services officer, Korn as assistant press chief and Cayer as media assistant.
