August 21 - England's hopes of winning the 2010 World Blind Football Championships on home soil were extinguished today by Brazil as the South Americans crushed the hosts 5-1 at the Royal National College for the Blind in Hereford.

Brazil, who are unbeaten in the tournament, were simply too good for England from start to finish and comfortably progressed to tomorrow's final where they will take on the and the only other unbeaten side in Spain.

The Spaniards booked their place against Brazil in tomorrow’s show piece event with a late goal against China that secured them a 1-0 in the second semi-final.

Tournament director Jon Dutton admitted that he is looking forward to the Brazilians taking on the Spanish in the final and added that England still have a chance to shine in the third place play-off.

Dutton said: "Brazil were superb and worthy winners and Sunday’s final ensures we have the only two unbeaten teams in it.

"The stage is set for a spectacular game and the third place play-off gives England a chance to sign off in style."

The winner of the tournament will not only receive the prestigious honour of being crowned world champions but also qualify to compete in the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

France edged out Colombia on penalties to win the fifth place play-off while Argentina beat a Japanese team who have gone all five games in the competition without scoring.

Greece rounded off the action as they finished on a bright note beating South Korea who now take home the wooden spoon.
