The initial sales window is open to spectators from around the world to lodge their requests for some of the 1.4 million tickets expected to be sold for the Games.

The early access period will remain open until October 6 and fans can request tickets for the more than 400 ticketed events, as well as the Opening Ceremony in downtown Toronto on July 10 and the Closing Ceremony at the Rogers Centre on July 26 next year.

Ticket prices for the Opening Ceremony range from CAN$100 (£55/$91/€69) to CAN$350 (£193/€320/€241), while the Closing Ceremony will cost between CAN$90 (£50/$82/€62) to CAN$200 (£110/$183/€138).

Tickets for gold medal events in athletics and swimming are priced at a maximum of CAN$140 (£77/$128/€97), while the average ticket will cost CAN$45 (£25/$41/€31) for the Games.

Toronto 2015 mascot Pachi was in Caledon today to mark the opening of the ticket sales process.

Caledon will host the equestrian events during the Games including dressage, eventing and jumping competitions, with tickets ranging from CAN$25 (£14/$23/€14) to CAN$75 (£42/$68/€53).

Ticketmaster will be in charge of selling tickets for the Games which will feature more than 6,000 athletes from 41 countries taking part in 36 sports.

To ensure fairness, in situations where more tickets are requested than are available for an event, customer ticket requests will be placed in a lottery, revealed organisers.

The lottery system aims to ensure everyone will have equal access to the most in-demand tickets.

Customers will receive an email in late November 2014 letting them know if their ticket requests have been successful.

All tickets not snapped up during the ticket request phase from today to October 6 will be available through general sale, where tickets will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis, beginning in December 2014.

Further details on this process will be released after the ticket request phase ends.

"We're determined to deliver the best Pan Am Games ever - one that athletes and spectators will rave about for years to come.

"That's why we're so pleased our tickets will be affordable for families - more than 75 per cent will be CAN$45 (£25/$41/€31) or less."
