Hannah_Cockroft_at_medal_ceremonyApril 26 - Britain produced a superb display at the International Wheelchair and Amputee Sport Federation (IWAS) World Games 2011 in Dubai as they finished top of the medal table.

The team claimed 23 gold, 15 silver and 10 bronze medals across the three sports contested - athletics, table tennis and weightlifting.

The vast majority of Britain's medals came in the sport of athletics where T34 wheelchair racing star and London 2012 medal prospect Hannah Cockroft (pictured) dominated.

The 18-year-old from Halifax, who won two gold medals earlier this year at the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Athletics World Championships in Christchurch, claimed two victories and four podium finishes in total as she broke the under-20 world records in the 100 and 200 metres and the European record in the 400m.

There was also a fantastic performance in athletics from Will Smith as the 15-year-old claimed for gold medals while defending IWAS World Junior champion Aled Davies matching picked up two gold medals double with victory in the F42 discus and javelin respectively.

There were also gold medals for last year's silver medallist and IPC World Championships bronze medallist Hollie Arnold in the F46 under-23 javelin and Thomas Green in the F32 club throw.

Britain's athletics team leader Paula Dunn said: "Firstly, I want to say well done to all of the athletes who delivered some great performances including a significant number of personal bests.

"The team finished number one in the medal table so credit to all of them, but it was a great team effort overall, so congratulations and thanks also to the team coaches, management and medical staff, we've had a very successful Championship which builds confidence ahead of next year and continues the good progress we're making at both junior and senior level."

In the table tennis competition, Jack Pegram claimed silver and Tyler Paul claim bronze for Britain while in the powerlifting competition Jake Norris claimed a bronze in the only category of the event which was the 52 kg men's division.

Norris finished behind gold medallist Hassan Hesarfouladi of Iran and silver medallist Ahmed Njrash of Iraq.
