January 6 - The line-ups for both the men's and women's 2014 International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) World Championships are taking shape after the final rounds of European qualification concluded this weekend, with the Netherlands being the biggest name to miss out.

June 3 - International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) President Ary Graça has expressed his disappointment that no major beach volleyball event will be played in London this year due to lack of sponsorship, even though the sport was one of the most popular events to be take place during last year's Olympics.

September 15 - Karch Kiraly, an American triple Olympic champion, has been named as the United States women's indoor volleyball head coach in a four-year deal that will culminate in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
Canadian show jumper Ian Millar holds the record for the most Olympic appearances by an athlete in any sport. When he competed at London 2012 at the age of 65 it was the tenth time he had competed in the Games since making his debut 30 years earlier at Munich 1972. He had won his only Olympic medal at Beijing 2008 when he was part of Canada’s team that took silver in the team jumping event. Millar won a gold medal in the Pan American Games team jumping event at Toronto 2015. He announced his retirement in 2019.
