May 13 - Show jumper Tim Grubb (pictured), who won a silver medal for Britain at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics,  has died of heart failure at the age of 55, it has been announced.


Grubb, who began his riding career in Leicestershire, won a team silver medal alongside colleagues John Whitaker, Michael Whitaker and Steven Smith.

"Tim was not only a great ambassador for showjumping in Great Britain, but also a great inspiration to all of those that knew him," said the British Showjumping chairman, Michael Mac.

Grubb became an American citizen, having moved to the States following his marriage in 1978 to the United States showjumper Michelle McEvoy.

He was a member of the US team at the 1994 World Equestrian Games and won some of the USA's most important Grands Prix, including the American Invitational, Devon and the Hampton Classic.

He also won the American Grand Prix Association Championship and the AGA Horse of the Year title with Denizen in 1993.

Grubb, who had been living in California, died in Illinois.
