January 6 - Britain's three-time World Ironman champion Chrissie Wellington (pictured) has undergone an operation after suffering a serious injuries in a bike crash while she was training.


The 32-year-old from Norfolk, who claimed her third consecutive world title in Hawaii last October, fell off her bike last Saturday (January 2) and broke her fingers and bones in her hand, wrist and arm.

Wellington said: "I underwent an operation on Monday (January 4) to insert some wires in my wrist.

"The operation was a success and I am back home today. 

"I should be out of plaster within six weeks. 

"The good news is I will be staying in the UK for the TCR (Triathlon, Cycling and Running) Show and the 220 Awards Dinner so I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible over those days in February (13-14). "

Wellington, a former Government worker, had been investigating the option of trying to qualify for Britain's cycling team at the London 2012 Olympics because the ironman is not part of the Games.
