Running in wet conditions on the first of two day's competition at the Prefontaine Classic, Kiprop broke his personal best by 25 seconds, finishing ahead of Moses Masai (pictured above, right) and Bitan Karoki.

Masai the 2009 World Championships bronze medallist and 21-year-old Karoki finished in 27:02.25 and 27:05.50.

"I am very excited," said Kiprop after sprinting clear of Masai down the home straight.

"I was competing to win and I was hoping in my mind it would happen.

"But I never thought I could do it.

"It is incredible."

Masai said: "In the home stretch I started to push and I felt a bit of a pain in my leg.

"I looked behind and saw it was just the two of us so I didn't push too hard at the end."

Double Olympic gold medallist Tirunesh Dibaba, also with a world leading time, held off Kenyan rival Florence Kiplagat to win her 10,000m race by 0.46 in a time of 30:24.39 with the winner's fellow Ethiopian Beleynesh Oljira third in 30:26.70.

World champion Christian Taylor (pictured above) won the triple jump with a clearance of 17.62 metres defeating fellow American Will Claye who jumped 17.48m with Britain's Olympic silver medallist Phillips Idowu third with a best effort of 17.05m.

The United States' Alysia Montano running in heavy rain posted the second fastest 800m time in the world this year of 1:57.37 when winning by almost two seconds ahead of her rivals.
