BupaManchester RunMarch 22 – A record 40,000 participants are scheduled to compete in the Bupa Great Manchester Run on May 20, the 10th time the race will be staged.

The 10 kilometres event is one of the most prestigious mass participation running events in the world and has an impressive list of entrants, including the four-time winner Ethiopian Haile Gebrselassie (pictured below winning last year's Run), considered by many to be the greatest distance runner in history.

The news comes as a boost for the myriad charities, which include the British Heart Foundation and Cancer Research UK, planning to raise substantial amounts of money from the event.
