Marcus BloomfieldDecember 2 - British Cycling has announced that British champion Marcus Bloomfield will be the new part time BMX Academy Coach, as six promising young riders are accepted onto the new academy programme.

Abbie Taylor, the junior silver medallist at this year's World Championships, joins Kyle Evans, Grant Hill, Dan McBride, Curtis Manaton and Tre Whyte in the academy.

It was recently confirmed that the Academy was being re-established, and GB BMX coach Grant White, overseeing the academy, said: "We're excited to have Marcus join the BMX coaching team.

"I worked with Marcus when he was an athlete on the GB programme and I know he has the skills, experience and personality to develop the young riders we've accepted onto the programme.

"All the young riders have been on our radar for a while and most have already been training under our Olympic Development Programme, but it's great to now have the next step in the structure in place for young, talented BMX riders in Great Britain."

British Cycling hope that the academy will help them identify up and coming talents who can emulate the likes of Olympic gold medallists Sir Chris Hoy and Victoria Pendleton and compete internationally.
