Jordan_Olympic_Committee_13-09-11September 14 - Al Ghad, an independent Arabic daily national newspaper, is set to launch a special page on their website to follow the progress and preparations of some of Jordan's top Olympic athletes as they prepare to compete at the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The newspaper, which was founded in 2003 and has its headquarters in Jordan's capital city of Amman, will see the page launched next month and feature video content from the athletes as well as factual information about their training processes.

The agreement to run the website page was signed by the publisher and chairman of Al Ghad Mohamed Alayyan as well as the British Ambassador in Amman Peter Millett.

"I am eager to highlight the London Olympics as a way to bring a lasting interest among Jordanians in the importance and value of sport," said Millett.

"I believe this page on Al Ghad news website will be full of very interesting and inspiring stories."

The Jordan Olympic Committee (JOC) was created in 1957 and was first recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 1963.

The country first participated at the Olympic Games in at Moscow 1980 and has sent athletes to compete in every Summer Olympic Games since then, although they gave never participated in a Winter Olympic Games.

"We are very excited about this new project," said the sports editor of Al Ghad, Tayseer Omairi.

"The page will have weekly video blogs from the athletes as well as lots of Olympics related sports news and useful information about the host city London.

"We are planning to launch the page during October and will continue till after the Olympics in 2012."

Jordan has so far never won an Olympic medal.

Two Jordanian athletes did manage to take third spots at the Seoul 1988 Olympics as Samer Kamal and Ihsan Abu Sheikha made the podium in the sport of taekwondo but as it was a demonstration sport and not an official Olympic event so the bronze medals they received did not appear on the official medal table.
