Haroon_Khan_in_Delhi_October_2010March 28 - British Boxing have denied reports from Pakistan that they will be hosting a training camp for Pakistani boxers in England.

Pakistan Boxing Federation (PBF) secretary Akranm Khan reportedly told media outlet The News that leading boxers from the country will be sent to England to work on their skills.

"We have got an invitation from England and we will send four leading boxers," Akram was quoted as saying.

"These four boxers will be joined by Haroon Khan and Raja Hasnain in England.

"Our boys will also get the chance to learn from Amir Khan (pictured)."

But GB Boxing and the Amateur Boxing Association of England (ABAE) dismissed the suggestion as a spokesman told insidethegames: "We have no training camps organised with Pakistan and nor have the ABAE."

Interest regarding the relationships between GB and Pakistani amateur boxers was sparked last year when Haroon Khan, the brother of Olympic silver medallist Amir, controversially decided to fight for Pakistan after claiming he was snubbed by England's selectors.

Khan represented Pakistan at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi where he beat Welsh star Andrew Selby in a tight contest in the flyweight (52kg) category on route to a bronze medal and claimed he had proved the British selectors wrong.

PBF secretary Akranm Khan also told The News that two other Britain-based boxers, Raja Hasnain and Zulqy Rehman, have shown their interest to represent Pakistan in the international circuit but it is clear that neither is of the calibre to make the GB Podium or Development squad.

"Those two boxers have never been nominated for an assessment camp or attended one," the GB Boxing spokesman revealed.

Khan had reportedly said: "Glasgow-based Raja Hasnain and Zulqy Rehman have shown their willingness to represent Pakistan.

"We want to watch them and would like to see them before or during the Second Shaheed Benazir Bhutto International Boxing tournament which will be held from July 20-27 in Islamabad.

"They will have to compete with our boys and if they prove themselves capable enough, we will consider them."
