"It was a lifelong dream," said the gymnast after reaching a historic milestone for Azerbaijan that she hopes can be repeated in the future. Mahsudova will compete at the European Championships for the first time with a chance of winning a medal.

"Winning an Olympic license was my childhood dream. I am delighted to have secured the license for the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics. Together with my coaches, we have made history and left our mark," said Selcan Mahsudova, a member of Azerbaijan's national trampoline gymnastics team, in a statement published on the official website of the Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation.

The 21-year-old gymnast insisted that she had always wanted to be an Olympic athlete: "From the day I started practicing this sport, I wanted to get an Olympic licence. I am happy that my efforts have not been in vain and that my dream has come true. I hope that my achievement will inspire young people. I firmly believe that our youth will represent our country in this sport at the Olympic Games."

This is an unprecedented achievement for Azerbaijan. It will allow gymnastics to make a qualitative leap in the development of Olympic sports and in such a special and specific discipline. She also spoke about her future goals: "The European Championships are now ahead of me. I have a good chance of winning a medal there. I would very much like to fly our flag before the Olympic Games after good results".

Trampoline gymnastics is a discipline of gymnastics in which a series of exercises are performed on various types of elastic apparatus, with an emphasis on acrobatics. It is essentially divided into three specialities: tumbling, double mini-trampoline and trampoline, the latter of which has been an Olympic event since the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney.
