Tsogas was previously worked for the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for more than eight years, first in the Olympic Games Department, in the Youth Olympic Games Unit and successfully organised three Youth Olympic Games before moving to the Sports Department. 

Within the Summers Sports team, Achilleas was responsible for the Combat Sports and Weightlifting and was also the main contact person for all elements of the Olympic Movement for the relevant International Federations. 

Prior to joining the IOC, the new IWF CEO held various management positions in the Organising Committees of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, as well as other prestigious international events around the world, namely the Asian Games, the Commonwealth Games, the Mediterranean Games, the Arab Games and the European Games. 

Originally a judo athlete and member of the Greek national team, he moved to Australia and became a member of the Sports Department of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games Organising Committee. He went on to become the Sports Director for the Athens 2004 Olympic Games and was also a successful member of the IJF Sports Commission for the 2001, 2003 and 2005 World Judo Championships.

In his previous roles at the IOC, he has been able to witness the progress we have made in many important areas and I am sure he will be instrumental in strengthening our sustainable and continuous development," considered the IWF President Mohammed Jalood. 

"It is a great pleasure and honour for me to embark on this new exciting journey with the IWF/Weightlifting family. I have been privileged to hold various positions in sports events around the world where I have been able to work successfully with different organisations and groups of people from different cultural and sporting backgrounds. Now I look forward to bringing all this experience to bear in my new role," he added. 

"I would like to thank President Jalood and the entire Executive Board for their confidence and trust and assure them that I will make the best use of my experience to take the IWF to new heights as a global sport and to further strengthen the position of weightlifting within the Olympic Movement," concluded the new IWF CEO.
