A blistering early start from the Emirati proved vital as he shot into a 5-1 lead before the pair traded points until victory was assured.

The UAE was unable to secure both individual foil golds as Shahad Kharram was denied in the women's final by Omani Israa Al Siyabi.

It also ended 15-13 but it was a late surge that clinched it for Al Siyabi.

She found herself 13-12 down but a scintillating three-point spell snatched the victory away from Kharram.

The first of two épée finals also eluded the UAE as they lost to host nation Saudi Arabia in the men's team gold medal-match.

Jawad Al Dawood, Hussain Al Taweel, Faisal Abed, and Ahmed Al Hussain combined to get the better of the UAE's Abdulla Al Hammadi, Khalifa Al Zarooni, and Omran Al Blooshi.

The quartet all played a part in the 45-39 win, which was never in doubt as they held the lead from the conclusion of the first match to the end.

The defeated four were then avenged by Shaihka Alzaabi, Zainab Al Hosani, Fajar Al Marzooqi, and Meera Alhammadi in the women's team épée final.
