Awane's final at the Eden Heights Sporting Complex against compatriot Samira Benichi came after a devastating 6.8-magnitude earthquake hit both players' country, killing at least 2,800 people.

Awane dominated the match winning 6-1, 6-2.

On the day after the earthquake, she combined with Benichi to win women's doubles gold 6-2, 6-2 against Kenya's Phoebe Masika and Jane Ndenga.

Afterwards, Awane shared her emotions on Instagram.

"It's a funeral in the homeland," she wrote.

"Our condolences are one.

"The hardest feeling to fight for your homeland while you are in a state of moral, psychological and mental brokenness, and in a state of internal weakness.

"I am honored (sic) to be a daughter of this wounded homeland."

The men's singles gold also went to the top seed as South Africa's Alwande Sikhosana beat his compatriot Leon Els 6-2, 6-3.

The South African duo took doubles gold together by overcoming Morocco's Lhaj Boukartacha and Said Himam 6-4, 6-2.

In addition to their wheelchair tennis success, Morocco overcame Algeria 64-45 in the men's wheelchair basketball final to finish the African Para Games top of the medals table.

Algeria won the women's gold with six wins against South Africa, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Morocco, Kenya, Zambia and Ghana in the round-robin.

The programme for the first African Para Games in Ghana was reduced to three sports, but took place despite the postponement of the African Games until next year due to economic issues and delays to preparations.
