Six Paris 2024 quota places were available across three Para rowing disciplines, with two of these on offer to the winners of the two PR1 women’s single sculls heats.

In the first heat, victory and the first Paris 2024 spot went to Israel’s Moran Samuel in a time of 9min 56.42sec.

Reigning Paralympic, world and European champion Birgit Skarstein won heat two with a statement performance in a World Championship best time of 9:54.08, securing a Paris 2024 place and winning the heat by more than 30 seconds.

Two Paris 2024 places were available to the winners of the PR2 mixed double sculls heats, with heat one going the way of Irish duo Steven Mcgowan and Katie O’Brien in a time of 8:12.01.

Heat two was won by Britain in 8:00.57, with reigning Paralympic champion in the discipline Lauren Rowles joined by a new partner in Gregg Stevenson, following the retirement of Laurence Whiteley.

The top two boats in the PR3 mixed coxed four repechage secured Paris 2024 places as well as spots in the A final.

Australia’s quartet of Susannah Lutze, Jessica Gallagher, Harrison Nichols and Thomas Birtwhistle, alongside cox Teesaan Koo were comfortable winners in 6:59.29.

China secured second place with a strong second half to the race as their line-up of Xixi Wang, Wanbin Zeng, Junlong Wu and Lingtao Jiang, with cox Li Yu finished in 7:06.54, a length clear of Italy.

In the PR1 men’s single sculls last year’s top four all impressed in winning their heats.

World and Paralympic champion Roman Polianskyi of Ukraine won heat two in 9:07.83 with clear water.

European champion Giacomo Perini of Italy was similarly comfortable in winning heat one in 9:09.22.

Despite not competing on the World Rowing Cup circuit this season, Australian Erik Horrie won heat one by more than 50 seconds in a time of 9:06.48, while Britain’s Benjamin Pritchard was an easy winner of heat four in 9:08.82.

The final heats took place in the men’s and women’s eights, with Australia, who won this event during the season’s third World Rowing Cup, triumphant in heat one in 5:37.85.

The nation they defeated in Lucerne Britain won the other heat in 5:34.35, while China endured a dramatic race as they finished more than two minutes behind the winner after breaking an oar at the start.

In the women’s eights, Romania cruised to victory in the second heat in 6:17.67, beating a British crew who had got the better of them at the third World Rowing Cup in Lucerne and forcing them to race the repechages.

The United States won the first heat on their season debut in a time of 6:18.36, with Olympic champions Canada only managing third.

Elsewhere there were repechage races across various categories, with the most notable in the lightweight women’s double sculls.

The second repechage featured the Olympic gold and silver medallists Italy and France racing to keep their championships alive.

They both qualified for the next stage, with France’s Laura Tarantola and Claire Bove winning in 6:57.78, and Italy’s Valentina Rodini and Federica Cesarini second in 6:59.69.

Racing is due to continue tomorrow with more repechages, quarter-finals and the start of minor finals in some classes.

Qualification for the Paris 2024 Paralympics will continue tomorrow with the remaining four spots determined in the repechages of the PR2 mixed double sculls, and four more places decided in the PR1 women's single sculls.
