Uzbekistan claimed two gold medals on the final day of the World Para Taekwondo Open Challenge, held as part of the Gangwon Chuncheon 2023 World Taekwondo Festival.

Competition took place across three K44 categories - men’s under-80kg, men’s over +80kg and women’s under-65kg.

Uzbekistan claimed the first of their gold medals in the K44 men’s under-80kg as Kudrat Muhammadiev overcame Zhanbolat Kaziyev of Kazakhstan.

Bronze medals in the category went to Jeonghun Joo of South Korea and Abulfaz Abuzarli of Azerbaijan.

Uzbekistan’s second gold came in the K44 men’s over +80kg category, as Asadbek Anvarov overcame South Korean Teahun Kim.

Bronze medals went to Chikara Ito of Japan and Pedro Paulo Neves Da Silva of Brazil.

Uzbekistan were targeting a clean sweep of the gold medals, however Guljonov Naimova was forced to settle for silver in the women’s under-65kg category, after being beaten by Laura Puntriano of Peru.

Only two athletes participated in this category.

The World Para Taekwondo Open Challenge is set to feature alongside the World Taekwondo Demonstration Championships and World Taekwondo Octagon Diamond Game, as part of the 2024 World Taekwondo Cultural Festival, also due to be held in Gangwon Chuncheon.
