The final golf major of the year is due to start tomorrow with the Women's Open set to take place in the English village of Walton-on-the-Hill.

There have been 11 different winners in the last 11 years at the Women's Open, most recently South Africa's Ashleigh Buhai in a playoff with three-time major champion Chun In-gee of South Korea at Muirfield last year.

This edition is set to mark the first time Walton Heath Golf Club has held the event, which is now the fifth major of the year on the women's golf calendar.

The last 10 majors have also featured 10 different winners, most recently French home favourite Céline Boutier at the Evian Championship.

Boutier followed her success up with victory at the Women's Scottish Open last week which has helped her climb to third in the world.

Olympic champion and world number one Nelly Korda of the United States is still seeking her second major triumph following on from the Women's PGA Championship in 2021.

The first three majors of the year were held in the US, featuring two American winners in Lilia Vu at the Chevron Championship and Allisen Corpuz at the US Women's Open.

Ruoning Yin of China was this year's other major champion at the Women's PGA Championship.

Korda's best finish at the Women's Open is joint-ninth in 2019, and she outlined the challenges of competing in Britain compared to the US.

"I would say depending on the weather and style of golf course, you have to have a lot of creativity out here," she said.

"You have to hit shots you normally wouldn't on other golf courses.

"Typically with golf courses in the US, it's very tight off - and you have to hit it high into the greens, and here you actually can chase it up.

"I mean, here you have to hit low bullets out here so the wind doesn't affect it.

"So I think British-style golf courses, you have to use a lot more creativity."

The total prize fund for the Women's Open stands at $9 million (£7.1 million/€8.2 million) for this year's tournament.

Competition is due to be held over four days until Sunday (August 13), with the leading 65 players plus ties making the midway cut for the final two rounds.
