Makira-Ulawa is one of the nine provinces of the Solomon Islands, which is due to stage the continental event for the first time from November 19 to December 2.

Pirione made the plea during the Makira-Ulawa Second Appointed Day celebration.

"You are aware that bigger events are coming ahead of us, this includes the Pacific Games and the general elections," Pirione said, as reported by the Solomon Star.

"The Government is surely committed and is working really hard to ensure that we host one of the most successful sporting events in the region.

"The upcoming Games cost millions of dollars and let me encourage all of us to be friendly and to provide the best hospitality to our brothers and sisters from the Pacific region. 

"I am confident the Province will contribute a lot as well, in availing its good people to participate in the Games and to win medals for Solomon Islands.

"I am sure that we will host a Pacific Games that strengthens friendship and cordial relationship among Pacific countries and their people."

A total of 25 sports are set to be contested at the Games with the Olympic events of archery, athletics, basketball, 3x3 basketball, beach volleyball, boxing, football, golf, field hockey, judo, rugby sevens, sailing, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, triathlon, kayaking, volleyball, and weightlifting all included.

Body building, karate, netball, powerlifting, rugby league nines, touch rugby, and va'a are also due to be contested.
