Brian Harman has maintained his five-shot lead following the third round of golf’s Open Championship, traditionally known as moving day.

The American golfer shot a two-under-par round of 69 at Royal Liverpool Golf Club in England, to keep the same advantage he had at the start of the day.

Despite bogeys on the first and fourth holes after finding the rough, Harman recovered to record four birdies and move to 12-under-par, as he looks to win a first Major title.

The 36-year-old finished in a tie for sixth place at The Open Championship last year but is well-placed to improve on that effort tomorrow.

His closest challenger is compatriot Cameron Young, who recorded six birdies and one dropped shot in a five-under-par round of 66, putting him second at seven-under-par.

In third place following the day’s lowest round is Spain’s Jon Rahm, winner of this year’s Masters Tournament at Augusta National.

Rahm posted a 63 including eight birdies, which featured four in a row between the ninth and 12th holes, to propel himself up 36 places into solo third at six-under-par.

Five players sit behind in a tie for fourth at five-under-par - Norway’s Viktor Hovland, who finished in a tie for second at this year’s PGA Championship, France’s Antoine Rozner, Australian Jason Day, Austria’s Sepp Straka and England’s Tommy Fleetwood.

Fleetwood, who was in solo second place overnight and was the big home hope for the tournament, recorded a level par round as he slipped back in the standings.

Tied for ninth after the second lowest round of the day is fellow Englishman Alex Fitzpatrick, brother of 2022 U.S. Open champion Matt.

Alex Fitzpatrick recorded a six-under-par round of 65, finishing with seven birdies as he moved 30 places up the standings to sit on four-under-par, alongside Shubhankar Sharma of India.

The final round of the last men’s major of the year is scheduled to be completed tomorrow, when the title of champion golfer of the year is set to be decided.
