Lima 2019 silver medallist Lois Betteridge will have the chance to go one step further at Santiago 2023 after being named in Canada's canoe and kayak slalom team for this year's Pan American Games.

She is joined by Florence Maheu, Maël Rivard, and siblings Alex and Léa Baldoni on the squad set to compete in Chile, with the Games scheduled to run from October 20 to November 5.

The five athletes qualified for their country at the Pan American Championships held in Três Coroas in Brazil earlier this year where they collected a total of five silver medals.

"Being named to the Santiago team is very exciting," said Betteridge.

"Getting to compete for the second time as part of Team Canada is something very special.

"It feels amazing to be going as part of a strong team and I hope to be able to contribute to the success of Canada at the Pan American Games!"

All four of Betteridge's future team-mates are set to appear at the event for the first time as Canada hopes to add to its seven Pan American Games medals in the sport which made its own debut at Toronto 2015.

A total of six slalom events are set to take place at the Aconcagua River with C1, K1, and extreme K1 contests scheduled for men and women.

"The whole team is delighted for the opportunity to represent Canada in Santiago this fall," said Canoe Kayak Canada senior high performance manager James Cartwright.

"This season is going to be a marathon with our Olympic qualifications starting in September in London and I know our athletes will also be very motivated to perform as part of Team Canada in Santiago!"

Anthony Colin and Michal Staniszewski are set to travel with the athletes and will serve as the only coaches for the sport.

"I'm truly excited to welcome five new athletes on Team Canada who will represent us in canoe/kayak slalom," said Christine Girard, Team Canada's Santiago 2023 Chef de Mission.

"With a good mix of experienced and newer athletes, the team will surely take our breath away on the whitewater course!

"An amazing venue and opportunity to showcase this thrilling sport."
