German rider Christian Ahlmann made a winning return from injury as he triumphed onboard Mandato van de Neerheide in the latest leg of equestrian’s Global Champions Tour, held in Paris, France.

Ahlmann came out on top in a seven-rider jump-off underneath the iconic Eiffel Tower, crossing the line in 38.09 seconds.

In front of a sell-out crowd, two French riders completed the podium, with second place going to Roger Yves Bost, riding Cassius Clay VDV Z, as he completed the course in 38.53.

Third place went to fellow French rider Penelope Leprevost, onboard Bingo Del Toudou in 39.37.

Four of the seven riders recorded clear rounds in both regular competition and the jump-off, with fourth going to Mexico’s Fernando Martinez Sommer, riding High Five in 39.55.

The three remaining riders in the jump-off all knocked down fences to end their hopes of victory, with Jessica Springsteen of the United States in fifth on Don Juan Van De Donkhoeve.

Gregory Wathelet of Belgium, onboard Bond JamesBond De Hay took sixth while Ireland’s Mark McAuley, riding GRS Lady Amaro, ended in seventh.

Victory in Paris was a marked contrast to Ahlmann’s previous Global Champions Tour appearance in April, when he ended with a broken arm after a fall in Mexico City.

"The last time I left Global {Champions} Tour it was a little different, with one arm in the wrong direction," Ahlmann recalled.

"This is the first time I am back in the ‘real sport’, let’s say, and to finish it with a win here, it’s unbelievable."

Ahlmann’s victory in Paris secures him a place at the Global Champions Tour Super Grand Prix in Prague, making him the eighth rider to do so.

Maikel Van Der Vleuten of the Netherlands remains in the lead of the overall Championship standings as the season reaches its halfway point, with 175 points.

Sweden’s Malin Baryard-Johnsson remains in second with 160.14 points, with Germany’s Christian Kukuk in third on 159.20 points.

The ninth leg of the season is due to take place in Monaco from June 29 to July 1.
