Champions were crowned in four sports on the first day of the inaugural Olympic Esports Series in Singapore.

The event at the Suntec Centre sees the International Olympic Committee make its first foray into the hugely popular competitive gaming industry after question marks on how it fits in with more traditional sport.

Lou Bates, Marlene Bjärehed, James Barnes and Martin Maertens of Team Fuego triumphed in the Zwift cycling event which featured elimination, sprint and climbing races on a virtual Scottish-themed track.

"I have dreamed of winning an Olympic event," said Maertens.

"I never thought I would have that chance at some point and now it's real."

Amandine "TheFairyDina" Morisset of France won the Just Dance event by beating Joseph "Aazzlano" Cordero of the United States in a best-of-three final.

"This is for all the women that play video games, that play Just Dance," she said.
