Men’s individual and team all-around competitions took centre stage on the first day of senior finals at the Asian Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Singapore.

The men’s individual all-around title went to Japanese teenager Shinnosuke Oka, a double junior world champion in 2019.

Oka took gold with a score of 86.065 points, with his highest-scoring apparatus the parallel bars earning him 15.000.

Carlos Edriel Yulo of the Philippines claimed silver with 85.930, with a top score of 15.066, also coming on the parallel bars.

The podium was completed by Takeru Kitazono of Japan, who took bronze with 85.431, with his best score of 14.966 on the parallel bars.

The men’s team all-around crown went to China, with the reigning Olympic bronze medallists scoring 256.762.

For China’s team of Xingyu Lan, Weide Su, Hao Tian, Dehang Yin, Chenyi Xie and Yinga Ta, their best scoring apparatus was the high bar with 43.733 points.

The silver medals went to Japan, with a score of 256.694.

Their line-up of Takeru Kitazono, individual all-around champion Oka, Fumiya Sasaki, Ryota Tsumura and Motomu Yoshida recorded their best score on the parallel bars with 44.232.

The podium was completed by Kazakhstan, who finished on 246.828 points.

Their line-up of Ilyas Azizov, Milad Karimi, Nariman Kurbanov, Dmitriy Patanin, Alisher Toibazarov and Diyas Toishybek recorded their best score on the vault, with 42.866.

Places at the World Championships, due to be held later this year in Antwerp, Belgium, were also up for grabs.

Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, who finished third and fifth in the team events secured the last two team places, while individual all-around silver medallist Yulo earned himself an individual spot.

The women’s individual and team all-around titles are set to be decided tomorrow, followed by individual crowns on Saturday and Sunday (June 17 and 18).
