Australia’s Olympic silver medallist Nicola Olyslagers joined Yaroslava Mahuchikh of Ukraine at the top of this season’s women’s high jump world rankings as she cleared 2.01 metres to win at the Paavo Nurmi Games in Turku in Finland.

Olyslagers, née McDermott, who jumped 2.00m to win at last Friday’s Paris Diamond League meeting, was most closely challenged by Britain’s Morgan Lake, who equalled her outdoor personal best of 1.97m at this World Athletics Continental Tour Gold meeting.

The other outstanding performance of the day in front of a record crowd of 13,640 in the Paavo Nurmi Stadium was a men’s javelin throw of 89.51m, the farthest achieved so far this season, by the Czech Republic’s Olympic silver medallist and world bronze medallist Jakub Vadlejch.

Home thrower Oliver Helander earned second place with 87.32m.

World women’s hammer throw champion Brooke Andersen, who threw the 2023 world-leading effort of 80.17m in Tucson last month, lived up to her position as favourite with a winning throw of 76.45m in the Paavo Nurmi Stadium.

Once again she was closely challenged by Canada’s Camryn Rogers, who threw a national record of 78.62m at the Los Angeles Grand Prix last month and was second here in 76.21m.

Sweden’s Olympic men’s discus champion Daniel Stahl produced a fifth-round throw of 70.38m to earn victory over Slovenia’s Kristjan Ceh, whose opening effort of 68.67m earned him second place.

Finland’s European women’s pole vault champion Wilma Murto earned a home victory with 4.75m, but there was home disappointment as European indoor champion Reetta Hurske could only finish fifth in the women’s 100m hurdles in 12.97sec in a race won by Switzerland’s Ditaji Kambundji in 12.79.

Cravont Charleston of the United States won the men’s 100m in 9.95sec from Britain’s Reece Prescod, who clocked 10.14.

Sarah Healy of Ireland won a hugely competitive women’s 1500m in which 0.10sec separated the first three home.

The 22-year-old, who trains with Britain's world and Olympic silver medallist Keely Hodgkinson under the guidance of Trevor Painter, recorded 4min 03.85sec to finish ahead of Italy’s Gaia Sabbatini on 4:03.88 and Ellie Baker of Britain, third in 4:03.95.

In the men’s pole vault KC Lightfoot, who recently set a US record of 6.07m, won with 5.90m from Australia’s double Commonwealth champion Kurtis Marschall, who cleared 5.71m.

Jamaica’s Shanieka Ricketts won the women’s triple jump field with her season’s best of 14.20m from Turkey’s European indoor champion Tugba Danismaz, who had a best of 14.03m.

Benjamin Robert of France won the men’s 800m in 1min 44.40sec from Clayton Murphy of the United States, the Rio 2016 bronze medallist, who recorded 1:44.91.

Jamal Britt of the United States won the men’s 110m hurdles in 13.32sec.

The women’s 400m hurdles was won by Britain’s Jessie Knight in 54.32sec.
