It was another successful day for hosts Kazakhstan at the Asia and Oceania Sambo Championships in Astana, where they won 23 gold medals.

Six of the seven women's junior combat sambo titles went to the host nation at the Beeline Arena in at the Beeline Arena Gaziza Nurmukhamedkyzy at under-50 kilograms, Ramilya Salimyanova at under-54kg, Zhansaya Almaganbetova at under-65kg, Aruzhan Kenessary at under-73kg, Zeinep Orazkhan at under-80kg and Ayaulym Azhmakhanova at over-80kg.

Mongolia's Munkhtuya Ganbat was the only non-Kazakhstani winner, denying Sagat Baigarayeva in the women's under-59kg.

Kazakhstan's three gold medals in the men's junior combat sambo events was matched by Uzbekistan.

Maxat Bakytov in the under-71kg, Tamirlan Kabdrakhmanov in the under-79kg and Dinmukhanbet Dinislamov in the over-98kg provided joy for the host nation.

Daler Murtazaev, Abdurahim Sadullaev and Amirkhon Kudratillaev earned golds for Uzbekistan at under-58kg, 88kg and 98kg respectively.

Turkmenistan's Ysmayyl Atayev was the other men's junior winner in the under-64kg category, beating Kazakhstan's Serik Shadiyar in the final.

New Zealand's bronze medallist Jon Madoc was the only athlete from Oceania to medal on day two.

Junior competitions are open to athletes aged 18 to 20.

In the masters combat sambo contests, Kazakhstan won all five titles in the 35 to 39 age bracket, four out of six in the competition for 40 to 44-year-olds and five out of six in the 45 to 49 events.

Uzbekistan won the other three age group golds.

The Asia and Oceania Championships are due to continue tomorrow with competition in the men's and women's youth sport sambo, and the women's combat sambo.
