Barbora Krejčíková of the Czech Republic stunned world number one Iga Świątek of Poland to capture the women’s singles crown at the the Women's Tennis Association 1000 Dubai Tennis Championships in the United Arab Emirates.

The Czech player swept to a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Świątek in 91 minutes to seal her sixth singles title of her career at the Aviation Club Tennis Centre in Dubai.

It was capped a superb week for Krejčíková who defeated the world's top three players consecutively to seal the trophy having beaten Belarusian neutral Aryna Sabalenka and American Jessica Pegula.

"I'm really happy with the way how I played, how I was able to play my tennis but also hold the nerves, just enjoy everything that was happening during this week on the court," said Krejčíková.

Świątek twice came back from a break down in the first set only for Krejčíková to earn a love break for a 5-4 lead before holding to love.

Krejčíková struck a crosscourt winner for the first break before surging into a 5-2 lead as she sensed victory.

Świątek got within a game before the 2021 French Open champion served out the match.

"I love challenges," added Krejcikova.

"When there is somebody that is really tough, I just love to go out there and see where I am, if I can beat this player, if I cannot beat this player.

"It just gives me extra, extra push.

"When you play with Iga, you have to suffer, otherwise you're not going to win because she's everywhere.

"She plays great shots.

"She likes to play long rallies, so you have to suffer.

"I don't mind that."

Russian neutral Veronika Kudermetova teamed up with Belgium’s Elise Mertens to defeat Chan Hao-ching and Latisha Chan of Chinese Taipei 6-4, 6-7, 10-1.

Action continues in Dubai tomorrow with the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Dubai Tennis Championships, an ATP 500 tournament, set to begin.
