France's world sprint champion Mathilde Gros won the women's title at the track cycling season opener in Jakarta - the 2023 International Cycling Union (UCI) Track Nations Cup.

Gros, 23, a double European champion in the keirin event, earned two straight victories in the Indonesian capital over Germany's Lea Friedrich, taking the first by 0.080sec, and the second by 0.921.

The racing for bronze went to a decider in which Britain's Emma Finucane beat her compatriot Sophie Capewell.

Harrie Lavreysen of The Netherlands, the Olympic sprint and team sprint champion and reigning world sprint and keirin champion, secured victory in the latter event after crossing the line following a final lap of brutal racing.

Malaysia's Azizulhasni Awang got huge support as he pushed Lavreysen all the way before taking silver.

Norway's 21-year-old Tobias Hansen, who earned world bronze last year in the team sprint, won the men’s omnium points race from New Zealand's Campbell Stewart.

Spain's Sebastian Mora Vedri beat Vincent Hoppezak of The Netherlands to bronze.

Denmark won the women’s madison title with 42 points thanks to superb rides from Amalie Dideriksen and Julie Leth.

France took silver on 32, and Italy bronze on 26.
