Niger reached the final four for the first time after pulling off a 2-0 upset against the Black Stars in Oran.

An own goal from Konadu Yiadom and a wondergoal from Soumana Hainikoye Boubacar helped the Ménas to the decisive victory at the Miloud Hadefi Stadium.

As a result of the victory, they will face hosts Algeria in the semi-final on Tuesday (January 31).

Earlier in the day, another surprise win came courtesy of Madagascar who beat Mozambique 3-1 in their first quarter-final.

Koloina Razafindranaivo, Jean Razafindrakoto and Marcio Ravelomanantsoa, were all on target for the Barea at the Mohamed Hamlaoui Stadium in Constantine.

"We came here as underdogs," said Madagascar manager Romuald Felix.

"But my players have worked hard and changed our status.

"I can't believe it.

"Congratulations to my players.

"In the beginning my players had fear.

"However, we adjusted and quickly adapted.

"That's why I am so satisfied.

"But in all honesty I didn't envisage we will be in the semis."

It is the first time in Malagasy football history that a national team has reached this stage of any continental event.

They face a tough challenge in the next round against Senegal, with the match due to be played at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Algiers, also on Tuesday.

"Senegal is a good team, they are African champions," Madagascar coach Romuald Felix said.

"We have a lot of respect for Senegal.

"That said, I believe they are beatable and we will go into that game with belief."
