The Czech town was where Shiffrin made her World Cup debut in 2011, when she was 15.

She fared much better this time around than in 2011, with a combined time of 1min 33.85sec across two runs, ensuring she topped the table.

The American beat Germany's Lena Duerr by just 0.6 while Switzerland's Wendy Holdener bagged the bronze medal with 1:35.16 on the clock.

Shiffrin is now just one World Cup win away from equalling Swede Jan Ingemar Stenmark's record total of 86.

"I have a lot of memories here," said Shiffrin.

"We don't race here every year but it was my first World Cup race, and I think it was four years ago the last time we were here and that was also an amazing race for me.

"I felt very good with my skiing, from the first turns I made this morning, I was on point and ready to be aggressive on the slope.

"So that's how I wish every race would feel."

Shiffrin's win was her 11th of the season so far, the fourth time she has won at least that many races in a single campaign.

It was also her fifth victory in nine slalom races this season.

Another slalom gold is available tomorrow in Špindlerův Mlýn.

It is the last event on the women's circuit before the Alpine World Ski Championships in France, set to take place from February 6 to 18.
