The FIS season has been heavily impacted by warm weather which has led to several events being cancelled and postponed, although disruption on the Cross-County World Cup has not been as heavy as it has been other circuits, notably for Alpine skiing.

Europe has recorded a notably mild winter, with hundreds of sites across the continent breaking heat records for the time of year.

An event preparation group consisting of representatives from National Ski Federations, the Organising Committee, the FIS cross-country team, Cross-Country Committee and athletes' representatives has confirmed that next weekend's event in Les Rousses can take place.

Snow and cold weather are forecast in the area, and organisers have vowed to deliver the best possible course conditions for the World Cup.

Les Rousses missed out on staging an event in the last two seasons because of COVID-19 restrictions.

Three men's and women's events are due to be held in Les Rousses.

A pair of 10 kilometres freestyle individual races are scheduled for January 27, followed by sprint classic qualifications and finals on January 28 and the 20km mass start classic races on January 29.

Livigno is due to stage a sprint freestyle race on the men's and women's World Cup on Saturday (January 21), with the Italian resort replacing Milan which had to pull out due to rising costs.

Norway's Johannes Høsflot Klæbo and Tiril Udnes Weng leads the men's and women's standings on the Cross-County World Cup respectively.
