Haitian Sambo Federation President Roberson Croimain has discussed the organisation's plans for the forthcoming year, with involvement at several major competitions planned.

Croimain revealed that Haiti intends to send a team to the Pan American Sambo Championships in Santo Domingo, with the event scheduled for September 6 and 7 in the capital of the Dominican Republic.

The Dominican Republic is also due to stage the World Beach Sambo Championships later that month, which Haiti plans to be present at.

The Federation is then targeting the World Sambo Championships in the Armenian capital Yerevan, scheduled for November 10 to 12.

Camps and qualification tournaments are expected to be organised by the Haitian Sambo Federation to prepare for these major events.

In addition, the Haitian Sambo Federation has scheduled seminars for club managements, referees and coaches throughout 2023.

Croimain was speaking after Haiti's National Championships in the city of Carrefour, which featured 78 athletes from across the country.

Men's, women's, boys' and girls' competitions were held in sport sambo, as well as a men's sambo tournament.

Representatives of the Grande-Rivière du Nord club led the standings at the National Championships.

Croimain said that the National Championships would be scheduled to end 2023.

Haiti became a member of the Pan American Sambo Union in July 2021 alongside Jamaica at the body's Congress in Villavicencio in Colombia, holding its first National Championships later that year.

Sambo is celebrating its 85th anniversary this year.
