Mikaela Shiffrin will not have the opportunity to win her 82nd International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) Alpine Ski World Cup race today, which would match the record of her American compatriot Lindsey Vonn, after the second slalom race in Zagreb was cancelled due to poor weather.

A combination of warm weather and strong winds halted the second day on the Sljeme course.

Shiffrin would have been the favourite for the gold, having won yesterday to take her within one of Vonn.

She is also just five World Cup wins off the men's record of 86, held by Swedish skiing great Ingemar Stenmark.

The American now moves on to Kranjska Gora in Slovenia for two legs of giant slalom on Saturday (January 7) and Sunday (January 8), looking to continue her World Cup winning streak which currently sits at five race victories in a row.

Italian Marta Bassino and Swedish Olympic giant slalom champion Sara Hector are expected to be her greatest challengers in the races.
