Stephane Kandler and Bruno Dubois are set to lead a French side in the 37th America's Cup in Barcelona in 2024.

The pair are competing for K-Challenge Racing, looking to dethrone New Zealand's victorious side from 2021.

The team is representing the Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez.

The French challenge was previously accepted by the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron and they have now chosen to formally announce their entry and confirm their proceedings with the campaign.

"Bruno and I are very excited to join the other challengers," said Kandler, who is chief executive of K-Challenge Racing.

"We have been working behind the scenes for almost a year now and we are going to announce great things by the end of this month."

The French join four other official challengers in the form of Ineos Britannia, American Magic, Swiss representative Alinghi Red Bull Racing, and Italy's Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli.

It is the first time that K-Challenge Racing has competed in the event since 2007.

The quintet will race against each other for the right to face Emirates Team New Zealand's crew.

"It is great to have the French now back in the America's Cup as the 5th Challenger, and one that will no doubt bring a lot of typical character and flair to what is lining up to be a stunning event in Barcelona," said chief executive of America's Cup 37 Grant Dalton.

"France is such a prominent sailing nation but despite this, it is not a small undertaking to get an America's Cup team up and running so I congratulate Stephane, Bruno and the Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez who have been working away tirelessly to get to this point."

The last edition of the America's Cup took place in Auckland in 2021 and saw Emirates Team New Zealand successfully defend their challenge of Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli 7-3 in its Te Rehutai yacht.
