The coxswain said it was time to start the next stage of his life as he is set to move to Britain.

The 28-year-old's retirement brings to an end his decade-long career.

"The time has come to close the chapter on my rowing career," Bosworth wrote on Instagram.

"I am very proud of what I have achieved over the past ten years and what the sport has taught me.

"I would like to thank everyone who has been a part of my journey particularly Rowing New Zealand, my crew mates, coaches, sponsors, friends and my family.

"I have made some amazing friends, travelled the world and also have lots of incredible memories that I will forever cherish.

"I am now excited to be moving to London to take on a new opportunity."

Bosworth has won a handful of world junior medals in his sporting career as well as achieving a historic feat at the 2017 World Championships.

His gold in Japan at last year's postponed Olympic Games stands out as the high point, however, as his New Zealand crew were labelled as outsiders before pipping second-place Germany and bronze medallists Britain to the line.

Bosworth made history at the 2017 World Rowing Championships in Sarasota in the United States when he became the first male coxswain to medal with a female crew as New Zealand won bronze in the women's eight final.
