The Royal Yachting Association (RYA) has produced a confidential selection policy document for potential British competitors in sailing at Paris 2024.

The Paris sailing regatta has been assessed as "one of the most difficult the RYA has had to face for some years" by the British governing body for the sport.

Officials cite the year delay in holding the Tokyo Olympics, which has had the twin effect of cutting down the training time for Paris 2024 and also reducing the number of competitions available.

The Olympic programme has also undergone a number of changes since Tokyo.

The Finn heavyweight single hander has been dropped and separate 470 events are combined into a mixed event.

The introduction of kiteboarding and a change to foil-board has also been confirmed with iQFoil replacing the RS:X board.

Mark Robinson takes over as sailing performance director for the 2024 Olympic Regatta which is set to take place in Marseille.

He replaced Ian Walker who oversaw three gold, one silver and one bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics.

It was the best performance by British sailors since the Beijing 2008 Regatta at Qingdao.

Robinson is set to have a budget of £22 million ($26.34 million/€25.48 million).

The application process for the British team closes at 5pm on February 1 2023.

The RYA expects that first team announcements are likely to be made in September 2023.
