Denmark, Finland, Hungary, Norway and Japan joined seven other nations in the next round of the World Mixed Curling Championship in Aberdeen as the round robin stage came to a close today.

Germany, Sweden, Switzerland and Finland have qualified directly for the quarter-finals by finishing top of their respective groups.

Denmark won their only game of the day 6-5 against Portugal to finish third in Group A.

Finland won their opening game 5-2 against Slovenia before going down 3-7 against South Korea.

Hungary demolished Austria 10-1 in their only game of the day while Norway edged the Czech Republic 6-5.

Japan, the only Asian team to qualify for the next stage, started the day with a shock 2-6 loss against Latvia before getting the better of Chinese Taipei 12-2.

Sweden, who qualified yesterday, beat minnows Nigeria 9-2 in the first session while the United States and Ireland also registered wins over The Netherlands and Chinese Taipei.

In the second session, England suffered an embarrassing 8-2 loss against Slovakia while hosts Scotland demolished Australia 9-2.

Quarterfinalists Switzerland crushed Luxembourg 11-0 while  the third session saw Latvia beat Ukraine 8-3.

Spain meanwhile edged The Netherlands 6-2 before Italy cruised past Croatia 7-4.  

India registered another win to bow out of their debut World Curling event in style.

The defeated New Zealand 6-3.

Meanwhile, Luxembourg forfeited their last round robin game following positive COVID-19 results within the team.

The World Mixed Curling Championship is set to conclude on Saturday.
