Viola Magoga secured Italy's first gold medal after finishing in 23.05 seconds in the women's 50 metres bi-fins final.

The University of Padua athlete pipped Loygen Youssef Ahmed Youssef Aly to the win as the Egyptian touched the wall just 0.16sec later.

Her compatriot Fatma Ayman Said Ahmed Osman rounded out the top three with a time of 23.25 after fending off a firm challenge from Carolina Trocca of Italy.

Riccardo Romano stood atop the podium in the men's 100m bi-fins decider.

Racing for the University of Salerno, Romano finished in 43.30 to take a comfortable victory over Viktor Riepin of Ukraine while Davide Konjedic of Italy made up the podium.

Italian Carolina Trocca won the women's 200m bi-fins final by 0.9sec as she beat compatriot Consuelo Dametto with a time of 1min 51.05sec.

Laura Rodriguez Tejerina of Spain finished in bronze with little pressure from the chasing pack.

Hungary's first win came courtesy of Lilla Blaszák who finished the women's 200m surface finswimming (SF) with a time of 1:33.34.

Silvia Sevignani won another medal for Italy as her 1:35.42 performance was enough for silver.

The 400m saw Italy's Lorenzo Caronno win silver and Mahmoud Waleed Ali Mohamed Ali of Egypt take bronze.

Caronno's compatriot Guglielmo Alicicco finished as runner-up in the 100m in front of bronze medallist Oleksii Zakharov of Ukraine.
