Alessandro de Souza of host nation Peru scored 74 points after three rounds in the men’s trap to lead the way, followed by Spain's Alberto Fernández - who secured mixed trap team gold at Tokyo 2020 alongside Fátima Gálvez - with the same score. 

De Souza opened with a score of 24, before going on to achieve the maximum 25 twice, while Fernández recorded 25, 24 and 25 again. 

Brazilian Hussein Daruich, who is only 14 years old, was not intimidated at all and managed to finish third, just one point behind. 

Marginally behind the Brazilian were William Hinton, Derek Haldeman, Derrick Scott Mein of the United States and Erminio Frasca of Italy, who all scored 72. 

Daruich is ahead of his four experienced compatriots including Roberto Schmits, who competed in the men's trap event at the 2016 Olympics.

In the women’s trap competition, Cristina Beltran of Spain recorded 22 in round one before scoring 23 and 24.

The total of 69 is the best in thee field.

Italian Gaia Ragazzini started strongly thanks to a 24 score, but had her performance level dropped in the next following two rounds, where she earned 22 points twice.

Augusta Rose Campos-Martyn of Puerto Rico finished third on 67 after scoring 20, 24 and 23. 

Canada's Lindsay Boddez and Italy's Alessandra Della Valle also ended the day with 67 total points.

A total of 137 athletes from 27 nations are taking part in the ISSF Shotgun World Cup, which is scheduled to run until April 6 at Las Palmas Shooting Range.

Men’s skeet, women’s skeet, mixed trap team, mixed skeet team, men’s trap team, women’s trap team, men’s skeet team and women’s skeet team competitions are also scheduled.
