Athletes from the United States, Italy and Russia prevailed at the latest International Fencing Federation (FIE) World Cup foil events in Guadalajara and Cairo.

The US dominated the team events, winning gold in both Mexico and Egypt.

Tokyo 2020 individual champion Lee Kiefer, Pan American Games 2019 gold medallist Jacqueline Dubrovich, Lauren Scruggs and Maia  Weintraub combined for the US to defeat the Italian delegation in the women's team tournament in Guadalajara.

They won 45-40 after beating Russia, Hungary and Brazil en route to the final.

In the individual competition in Guadalajara, Italy's Alice Volpi got revenge for the team defeat with a nail-biting 15-14 victory over Kiefer to take gold.

Volpi had dispatched her compatriots Erica Cipressa, Elena Tangherlini and Olga Rachele Calissa as well as Germany's Aliya Dhuique-Hein prior to the final.

At the men's World Cup in Cairo, Tokyo 2020 team bronze medallists Nick Itkin and Gerek Meinhardt helped the US to team gold alongside Chase Emmer and Adam Mathieu.

They downed Russia in the final while Italy secured bronze.

Anton Borodachev of Russia secured gold in the individual event after defeating Vladislav Mylnikov.

The Tokyo 2020 team silver medallist beat his compatriot 15-6 in a comfortable final.

Borodachev had seen off Italian Davide Filippi, Japan's Abe Yoshiki and Frenchmen Pierre Loisel, Enzo Lefort and Alexandre Ediri in his quest for the title.

In addition to the Guadalajara and Cairo events, there was a World Cup in Sochi but it was called off on the final day.

This was following Russia's invasion of Ukraine,  which had already led numerous non-Russian athletes to pull out.

Greek capital Athens is due to stage the next FIE World Cup stop from March 4 to 6, with women's team and individual sabre tournaments scheduled.
