Competition is set to begin tomorrow at the International Federation of Sleddog Sports On-Snow World Championships in Hamar.

The Hamar Sleddog Club in Norway stepped in as host at the end of last month, with snow conditions in Åsarna in Sweden deemed to be unsafe.

Races are set to begin tomorrow in the two-dog sprint, the men's and women's two-dog skijoring, the four-dog sprint, the unlimited sprint, six-dog mid-distance and 12-dog mid-distance events.

Medals are up for grabs in the two-dog skijoring.

Men's and women's one-dog skijoring and the four-dog sprint are due to start and finish on Friday (February 25), with the six-dog and eight-dog sprints also getting underway.

Combined, two-dog sprint, unlimited sprint, six-dog and 12-dog mid-distance, and men's and women's two-dog skijoring titles are scheduled to be awarded on Saturday (February 26).

The final day of competition on Sunday (February 27) is reserved for the six-dog and eight-dog sprints, the one-dog men's and women's pulka and the relays.

Relays are due to be held in the one-dog skijoring and two-dog and four-dog sprint classes.

Hosts Norway, Czech Republic, France and Sweden have each entered two teams into the relays, with Britain, Germany, Poland, Slovakia and Switzerland each nominating one.

Austria, Belgium, Finland, Hungary, Italy, Lithuania, The Netherlands, the Russian Sleddog Sport Federation, Spain and the United States are also due to take part in the individual races.

The World Championships are being held alongside the World Masters as well as junior events.
