Accra 2023 organisers have met with Ghana's First Lady to discuss avenues of collaboration around the African Games.

Executive chairman Kwaku Ofosu-Asare led the Organising Committee delegation, which outlined its plans for Ghana's first staging of the African Games.

The event in 2023 does not yet have confirmed dates, but an August window is favoured and organisers have vowed to establish world-class sports infrastructure and promote Ghana as a sporting destination.

Accra 2023 has set goals including establishing Ghana as one of Africa's leading five sporting nations and promoting Ghanaian sports leaders to serve on international governing bodies.

Rebecca Akufo-Addo expressed to the delegation a willingness to use the Office of the First Lady to bolster efforts to ensure the event is a success.

The Rebecca Foundation, a non-profit of which the First Lady is the executive director, could work with the Organising Committee on projects designed to uplift youth and women, it is claimed.

The Organising Committee has also held meetings with former Ghanaian President John Agyekum Kufuor, Accra Mayor Elizabeth Sackey and the Ghana Tourism Authority in recent times.

Deputy Minister of Health Mahama Asei Seini also hosted an Organising Committee delegation this month, with the COVID-19 pandemic, medical infrastructure and health guidelines all discussed.

A nine-day meeting with the African Union Sport Council is currently underway.

A logo and eagle mascot, named ɔkɔdeɛ, were launched in late 2021.

A total of 18 sports are expected to be on the Accra 2023 programme and a new sports complex in the Borteyman area is due to play a central role in staging events.
