The New Zealander saw off competition including from the American Olympic champion Jamie Anderson and Canada's Laurie Blouin, who won the silver medal at Pyeongchang 2018.

Anderson was second and Blouin third in Aspen.

There was more antipodean success in the men's snowboard superpipe, with Scotty James claiming victory.

It is the Australian's fourth gold medal in the event, and relegated Japan's Hirano brothers - Ayumu and Kaishu - to second and third place, respectively.

Ayumu Hirano is a two-time Olympic silver medallist in the big air, and former two-time superpipe champion at the Winter X Games. 

Norway's Marcus Kleveland won the snowboard knuckle huck, with compatriot Fridtjof Sæther Tischendorf second and American teenager Dusty Henricksen - the defending champion - third.

The knuckle huck event sees athletes have 20 minutes to perform tricks off the "knuckle" - the lower section - of the big air jump.

Another teenager, 19-year-old Kelly Sildaru from Estonia, won the women's ski superpipe crown back.

It is Sildaru's sixth Winter X Games gold medal, and she will be the hot favourite come tomorrow's slopestyle contest.

Pyeongchang 2018 halfpipe bronze medallist Brita Sigourney was second and Lausanne 2020 Youth Olympic Games bronze medallist Hanna Faulhaber third, as Americans completed the podium.

Tess Ledeux from France won back her women's ski big air title, with Canada's Megan Oldham second and Olivia Asselin third.
