Pérez, who became an International Olympic Committee (IOC) member in 2018, stood unopposed for the role at the organisation's General Assembly.

He has held the position since 2011 and is set to continue as COP President beyond the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

Julio Ferrari and Roberto Escobar were elected COP vice-presidents during the meeting, while Juan Orihuela was appointed secretary general.

Pérez is also a member of the International Tennis Federation Board and the Association of National Olympic Committees Executive Council.

The Paraguayan official is an individual member of the IOC and his place in sport's most exclusive club is not linked to his COP Presidency.

Since becoming part of the IOC at the Session in Buenos Aires in 2018, Pérez has been chosen to sit on the Coordination Commission for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Los Angeles.

He is also a member of the Olympic Programme Commission.

Pérez will be expected to play a key role in the organisation of the delayed 2022 South American Games, set to take place in capital Asunción.

Paraguay had withdrawn from hosting the event because of a lack of funds before the Government performed a U-turn and agreed to stage it.

The Games had been scheduled to be held from April 26 to May 9 before being pushed back to October 1 to 15 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
