Mauritian judoka Rémi Feuillet is now looking towards the Tokyo 2020 Olympics after qualifying for the Games with an impressive seventh-place finish at the World Judo Championships.

The 28-year-old came into the tournament off the back of two consecutive bronze medal finishes at the African Judo Championships over the past year and won three matches to put himself into the quarter-finals.

First, he defeated Canada's Mohab El Nahas before progressing with victories over Gabon's Paul Kibikai and Ciril Grossklaus of Switzerland.

He lost to Japan's Kenta Nagasawa before losing in the repechage to Altanbagana Gantulga of Mongolia - but still recorded a fantastic result at the tournament.

"Physically I have felt good all day long and I am really happy with my result, although there is still a little frustration that I did not go further," said Feuillet.

He added his delight when his coach, Baptiste Leroy, calculated that the Mauritian should be able to qualify for Tokyo 2020 through the continental quota system.

Although he viewed his draw for the World Championships as favourable, he was happy with the way he dealt with the pressure.

"It's a great adventure that I am living," added Feuillet.

"I am conscious of that, even more today.

"I knew that here I had a good, I had to take advantage of it, I did not put pressure on myself, I just took contest after contest.

"I have a tendency to be a little fearful, but in Budapest I had nothing to lose and everything to gain."

In the men's under-90-kilogram category, Feuillet is set to qualify in one of the African spots alongside Ghana's Kwadjo Anani.

The Tokyo 2020 Olympics are scheduled to take place from July 23 to August 8.
