Hungary finished top of the medals table with a total of 18 medals - nine gold, seven silver and two bronze - with Germany second on four golds, three silvers and three bronzes, and Belarus third with three golds, three silvers and two bronzes.

Danish kayaker Jorgensen won the women's K1 500 metres final and took bronze in the women's K4 event, adding to the K1 200m title she had already secured on the Malta Lake.

"I'm not in totally top form, but I am getting there for the Olympics," she told the European Canoe Association.

In today's 500m final Jorgensen finished half a second ahead of Hungary’s Danuta Kozak, while in K4 Denmark with Jorgensen on board finished third behind the crews from Hungary and Belarus.

Bodonyi was part of the winning Hungarian K4 together with Dora Lucz, Tamara Csipes and Anna Karazs and she also became European champion in the K1 5000 metres event, where Russian Elena Mironchenko and German Sabrina Hering-Pradler joined her on the winner's podium.

Germany’s Max Hoff and Jacob Schopf won the men's K2 1000m final and finished third in the men's K2 500m behind Belarusians Uladzislau Litvinau and Dzmitry Natynchyk and Ukraine’s silver medallists Dmitro Danylenko and Oleh Kukharyk.

And Germany’s 33-year-old Sebastian Brendel, three times an Olympic champion and 12-times a world gold medallist, added two more golds to his collection.

The first came in the men's C2 1000m final where he paddled together with Tim Hecker, and the second in the C1 5000m.

Sandor Totka of Hungary won the men's K1 200m final, beating world record holder Liam Heath of Britain and Petter Menning of Sweden.

Home paddler Dorota Borowska won the women's C1 200 metres final.

Luzan of Ukraine and Romasenko of Russia joined her on the winner's podium and were soon in the medals again in the women’s C2 200m.

Romasenko won gold with Irina Andreeva ahead of Hungarians Virag Balla and Kincso Takacs, with Luzan and Anastasiia Chetverikova taking bronze.

Slovenia won its first European gold through Špela Ponomarenko Janić and Anja Osterman in the women's K2 200m.

Martin Fuksa of the Czech Republic added another European title in addition to yesterday's C1 1000m success, winning the 500m gold.

Spanish canoeists Alberto Pedrero and Pablo Grana were the winners of the men's C2 200m final.

In the K1 5,000m Hungary’s Balint Noe earned gold, while Volha Klimava of Belarus won the women's C1 5000m final.
