Mexico fought back from three goals down to beat the Bahamas in the quarter-finals of the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) Beach Soccer Championship in Costa Rica.

Diego Rodriguez, Gabriel Macias, Salomon Wbias and Cristofher Castillo all scored as the defending champions came from behind to level things up a 4-4, taking the tie to extra time.

Rodriguez then scored a winner, sealing a last-four spot for the Mexicans.

They will face the United States next in Alajuela, following a 4-3 American triumph over Panama.

Gabriel Silveira spearheaded the US effort with two goals.

Hosts Costa Rica fell 6-4 to Guatemala, who had never before reached the semi-finals of this event.

Christopher Gonzalez and Miguel Gonzalez each bagged a brace for Guatemala.

El Salavdor await, following a 9-2 win versus Trinidad and Tobago, thanks in part to hat-tricks from Ruben Batres and Francisco Velasquez.

The semi-finals are due to be played tomorrow, and as well as advancing to the final, the winners will earn berths at the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup, scheduled to take place in Russian capital Moscow later this year.

Another qualifier for the World Cup, the Africa Beach Soccer Cup of Nations, starts on Sunday (May 23).
