Trump faced compatriot Shaun Murphy in an all English affair with the match resuming today at 4-4 after one session of play.

After the first four frames of the afternoon were shared, Murphy won four in a row including two centuries to open up a 10-6 lead heading into session three.

This time it was Trump’s turn to dominate, and an impressive break of 111 helped the world number one level at 11-11.

The 2005 world champion Murphy then made breaks of 70 and 62 to close out a tense encounter 13-11.

Another dramatic match saw England’s Stuart Bingham come from behind to triumph against Scotland’s Anthony McGill in a decider.

McGill started the final session with a 9-7 advantage and rattled off a break of 106 to extend his lead to three frames.

After McGill, who beat defending champion Ronnie O’Sullivan in a decider in the previous round, missed a black off the spot in the next frame, Bingham claimed four in a row, with a top score of 91, as he took an 11-10 lead.

Bingham, champion six years ago, put himself on the brink of victory at 12-10 but McGill battled back to ensure he went the distance for a second match in a row.

McGill got in first in the decider but lost position early on and after a safety exchange Bingham had his chance and never looked back closing out victory 13-12 thanks to a break of 125.

Elsewhere, England’s Kyren Wilson produced a blistering session of snooker to knock out Australia’s Neil Robertson 13-8.

An intriguingly poised match resumed at 8-8 but last year’s runner-up dominated proceedings and made a rapid start with a break of 133 to take the lead.

Wilson made breaks of 59 and 62 on his way to taking a 12-8 lead at the mid-session interval, and he claimed victory at the first opportunity thanks to a break of 84.

Two three-time world champions met in the other quarter-final which saw England’s Mark Selby beat Wales Mark Williams 13-3 with a session to spare.

Selby started what was scheduled to be the second of three sessions in the match with a 6-2 lead and won the first four frames of the day, which included a top break of 96, to take a firm grip on the encounter.

Williams stopped the rot in frame 13 but a relentless Selby continued to outplay his opponent and won the next three frames, which included a top break of 54, to seal a place in the last four in dominant fashion.

The semi-finals begin tomorrow and will take place over the best of 33 frames, and a scheduled four sessions at The Crucible Theatre in Sheffield, England.

The semi-final line-up features four English players, with Bingham and Selby due to play their opening session in the afternoon, with Wilson and Murphy scheduled to follow in the evening.
